Noah Stokes | Es Bueno: Thirty Five →
You HAVE TO check this out. Great points made. esbueno: Much like last years popular Thirty Four, here are thirty five things I’ve learned in thirty five years. You may think the lead guitarist is the bad-ass in the band, but you’d be wrong. It’s the bass player. If you were to drop off the face of the earth tomorrow, the people who call looking…

Why Do You Want to Be a Freelancer? →
Really great article by Mike Smith of Guerrilla Freelancing. There are lots of motivations for becoming a freelancer and I think he brings up some great points. In my experience, I love the ability of working from anywhere and making great money. Here are some words that I found especially interesting. Check out the full article by following the link above! There’s nobody better than me. If...

Steve Jobs on Entrepreneurs
I hate it when people call themselves ‘entrepreneurs’ when what they’re really trying to do is launch a startup and then sell or go public, so they can cash in and move on. They’re unwilling to do the work it takes to build a real company, which is the hardest work in business. That’s how you really make a contribution and add to the legacy of those who went before. You build a company that will...

iOS 5 GUI PSD
This is an amazing file. I took a look at it and the detail that went into creating this is amazing. If you’d like to download the file, you can do so by visiting the post by Geoff Teehan here. I encourage you to check it out and I leave you with my favorite quote from the post. One thing to be sure of here is that this OS is tighter from a design standpoint than its ever been before....

Branding 10,000 Lakes
Lake logos have a tendency to be, well, fairly ugly. This project was created to rethink what they could be. This sounds like an awesome project and after talking with Nicole over Twitter… she seems like a real down to earth gal. Be sure to check out here cool project here.

Oh, well you see, you actually need a facebook group or fan page and a Twitter account so we can link the icons to them. Remember I asked you to create those pages?” Client: “We don’t want…

Protecting Yourself as a Designer →
I really enjoyed this article. I think it gives some very helpful tips. I completely agree when it says to take projects on that are inside your skill set. Although it can help to take a risk every once in a while and therefore, learn new skills and hone the ones you currently have, it’d be a big mistake to push your boundaries too much. Don’t get me wrong, pushing the boundaries and...

I Support the Anti Spec Work Campaign →
Spec(ulative) work is a cancer within the design industry and all designers need to understand their role in fighting it. I fully support this. So many people have been taken advantage of and it seems that we are one of the only industries that businesses can convince that we should work for free. Needs to be stopped.

How to Write Awesome Automated Emails →
Very interesting article. Very helpful considering that I’m currently working on the copy for the automated emails for Bundly. It’s a lot tougher than I thought. Like he says in the article: Even though this email was generated by a chunk of code, it feels like it was actually sent by a human. The task is to give an inanimate object, like a website, a friendly and personable feel....

The Thought of a New Product
Over time, I’ve learned that it’s much better to share new things that one thinks of with the universe. Most people are quite nice and will give you feedback and in some cases, even some critisism; which in my mind can be extremely helpful if taken with a grain of salt. So with that in mind, I have a question. Do you think anyone would use an online service that randomizes...
